Roll up, roll up, for the PCA Awards 2016!

Roll up, roll up, for the PCA Awards 2016!

The organisers of the PCA Awards decided to do something different this year - instead of the same old stuffy ceremony, they chose to hold a circus themed event to mix things up and inject a little fun. So as guests walked the red carpet our rather chilly vintage strongmen in leopard print lycra offered the ladies some eye candy, and gave the gents a giggle. High fives, lunges and bicep curls were a-plenty as the videographer captured all of the action.

Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington was beautifully decorated inside with subtle nods to circus. And after dinner, a big screen at the centre of the stage televised a live countdown which prompted guests to find their seats and get ready for the awards to begin. Then a video was broadcast, which the videographer had ever so swiftly put together, showing clips of the guests' arriving at the red carpet just an hour or so earlier. This was met with applause and laughter.

Traditional ringmaster

Our traditional ringmaster took to the stage to welcome the crowd and warm them up, before introducing our LED hula hooper who performed in darkness with her programmed, colour-changing hoops. These had been cleverly customised to incorporate the sponsor's logo - feel free to click on the video at the top of this blog, which shows some highlights of this show.

Then our one-of-a-kind clockwork ballerina took to the stage on her Ballet tiptoes, to present the awards to the lucky winners.  The photographer snapped away throughout and got a selection of both candid and posed shots. And as guests made their way from the dining room to the bar, our circus ballerina moved amongst guests, stopping periodically as if her batteries had run out. And guests were prompted to turn her LED key, in order to get her dancing again. Always a charming act enjoyed by all.

Thank you for your hospitality, PCA Awards, you were wonderful.

007 bash in Portsmouth for Affinion Travel

007 bash in Portsmouth for Affinion Travel

We cannot help but look forward to Affinion's annual Ace Awards in Portsmouth, and this year they tasked us with building a spectacular James Bond experience for their staff.  The venue Tiger Tiger on Gunwharf Quays played host to the ceremony, transforming the space with staging, projections and slick decor.

On arrival guests were patted down by our mini security guards, complete with metal detectors and an in-built ability to identify which guests were 'dodgy', which drew many a smile! And as partygoers ascended the stairs they were greeted by an electronic string duo performing covers of infamous Bond tracks. Our Russian ice hostesses showed them into the venue, where our topless hosts in Daniel Craig swimming trunks made the girls grin and the chaps jealous!

Sipping on champagne and enjoying canapes, our Shirley Bassey tribute artist performed classic 007 material - her voice is simply phenomenal, and she really added wow factor to the drinks reception. And as the show drew to a close, our stunning red showgirls escorted the CEO to the stage for the awards to begin. Each winner posed for photos with the showgirls and our photographer, as our videographers captured all the action on film.

We warmed up the party with Oddjob, Jaws and Daniel Craig lookalikes, along with a Keith Lemon lookalike who came dressed in a smart suit and signature ridiculous shoes! And even Shirley Bassey ushered guests onto the dancefloor to pose for a snap, as the DJ played dancefloor classics to warm everyone up. Our Russian ice hostesses beckoned guests over to the 007 ice luge, pouring vodka in one end for guests to catch in their mouths at the other end. And our two classical dancers performed in two giant martini glass props, which were fully illuminated offering a dynamic photo opportunity.

Gold body painted Bond girls roamed with hand-written signs announcing that dinner was now being served in the ceremony room, so guests were free to wander between the party rooms and the buffet area. And our exceptional hypnotist and magician moved from table to table demonstrating pickpocketing, pin number guessing and contemporary magic tricks.

Sugar Skull stilt walkers joined the party in our bespoke Spectre costumes, inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead fiesta in the film. And guests were led into the photo booth - complete with silly props - before the band took to the stage with a host of commercial covers and rockier numbers.

Huge kudos to every single performer, as our changing space was limited. And a special thank you to our event manager Sophie who ensured everything ticked over as it should. We look forward to working with Affinion again this summer.

Winter Wonderland awards ceremony in London

Ice venetian statue 1

There's little more Christmassy than a Narnia themed event, so we were delighted to be invited to perform at the prestigious PPA Connect Awards in December 2015. This event marks the achievements of events industry professionals, so it's a tall order to impress a room full of individuals who book entertainment for a living, but we knew we were up to the challenge!

The ceremony was hosted by ETC venues, in London, which was transformed into a theatrical Winter Wonderland with clever lighting and tasteful decor. As guests arrived to the drinks reception they were greeted by our luxurious roaming ice statues, offering a unique photo opportunity.

Their eyes were then drawn to our classical dancer performing in one of our illuminated giant martini glass props, which we'd decorated with frosted ivy.

Guests took their seats in the dining room and enjoyed silver service, before our star act took to the stage - the UK's only contorting foot archer.  With the act being brand new it was wonderful to watch the dinner conversation slowly silencing as she captivated every member of the audience, to the point where they were rooting for her to hit that next shot! She bowed to rapturous applause, and many of the guests posted photos and adoring comments about her on social media #ppaconnect

Desserts were finished and guests headed to the bar area to an alpine scenery set up as a photo area, with various props and accessories to add to the fun. Our one-of-a-kind clockwork Nutcracker doll mingled on the dancefloor, dance en pointe (her Ballet tiptoes) to the amusement of guests. And she would occasionally stop still as if her batteries had run out, prompting guests to run her LED-lit wind up key, enabling her to dance again. A charming act enjoyed by all.

Thanks for having us, PPA Connect. See you in 2016!
