The best entertainment for carnival themed events

Here's our quick-fire guide to planning the best carnival themed bash, whatever the weather.

Never has summer looked more diverse and colourful than in 2018, when we've been challenged with producing event entertainment for numerous world carnival theme bashes, from Rio parades to masked Venetian, Dia de los Muertos, New Orleans Mardi Gras and London's infamous Notting Hill Parade.

1. Plan for rain or shine
When choosing your venue consider that you may not get the Brazilian sunshine you hope for - a marquee or covered area will be put to good use whether it's sunny or not. And any good decor company will make sure it fits your theme perfectly. We work with some gooduns!

2. Make an impression
Impressive meet and greet entertainment will set the tone of the event, and encourage your guests to get stuck into the theme. This could be steel pan bands a la Trinidad & Tobago Carnival, costumed Day of the Day stilt walkers for Mexican fiestas, or human statues for Venice Carnival.

3. Cater it right
Nobody expects a costly sit-down meal at a carnival themed bash - it's all about the street food. And don't forget to cater for your veggie and vegan clientele. Many events we work now are entirely meat-free.

4. Put on a show
From authentic Samba dancers to Mariachi bands, African drummers, limbo shows and everything in between, your theme is all about colour and energy and fun, so get your guests involved for that authentic carnival experience.

5. Document the memories
We can supply photographers and videographers, but if you're after something a little more unique why not consider a photo booth, a selfie stand, or one of our amazing LED photo frames hosted by our costumed performers - the rainforest tiger goes down particularly well at these bashes.

Stars and stripes for this travel brand

Kicking off 2017 as we mean to go on, we entertained at a fantastic USA themed corporate event in Portsmouth with some of our favourite American acts. This yearly awards ceremony brought all the staff from Affinion Travel together to celebrate a year of hard work with a good ol' American knees up.

The VIP experience began with a walk on the red carpet where guests were greeted by our fake paparazzi and celebrity interviewer who begged them to pose for the camera and hounded them with questions of 'tell us, are the rumours true' and 'which of this season's trends has inspired your catwalk look'.

Once inside the venue, our Native American hosts took guests' coats, Hooters girls offered champagne and bottles of beer, and our charming Usherette girls served canapes in traditional USA costumes. These characters later interacted with our bespoke American flag shaped LED photo frame, which offered guests a unique opportunity to pose for a picture.

The USA theme continued with our incredible Dolly Parton tribute act who sung throughout the drinks reception, and escorted Affinion's MD to the stage with her signature sass. And after the awards our Elvis Presley tribute kicked off the party with renditions of 'Hound Dog' and other loved classics.

Our high energy 1950s dance duet performed the 'Hand Jive' from Grease, to rapturous applause from party guests, as lookalikes Marilyn Monroe, Jack Sparrow, Britney Spears, Donald Trump and Ozzy Osborne mixed and mingled. And our cheeky cowgirl stilt walkers offered a hint of Wild West interacting with an inflatable catcus and steed!

Diner girl rollerskaters got the dancefloor started as our cheerleader pole dancer demonstrated amazing flexibility and strength on our freestanding pole platform.

The cherry on the cake was our bald eagle ice luge lit with red, blue and white lights, through which we poured flavoured vodkas - some guests certainly enjoyed this and came back more times than we could count!

Huge thanks to our photographers Alberto Baucis and Rebecca Honour who did an amazing job as always.  And a well done to event managers Abi and Sophie who kept every act to schedule, and finished feeling rather proud. Go team!

Winter Wonderland awards ceremony in London

Ice venetian statue 1

There's little more Christmassy than a Narnia themed event, so we were delighted to be invited to perform at the prestigious PPA Connect Awards in December 2015. This event marks the achievements of events industry professionals, so it's a tall order to impress a room full of individuals who book entertainment for a living, but we knew we were up to the challenge!

The ceremony was hosted by ETC venues, in London, which was transformed into a theatrical Winter Wonderland with clever lighting and tasteful decor. As guests arrived to the drinks reception they were greeted by our luxurious roaming ice statues, offering a unique photo opportunity.

Their eyes were then drawn to our classical dancer performing in one of our illuminated giant martini glass props, which we'd decorated with frosted ivy.

Guests took their seats in the dining room and enjoyed silver service, before our star act took to the stage - the UK's only contorting foot archer.  With the act being brand new it was wonderful to watch the dinner conversation slowly silencing as she captivated every member of the audience, to the point where they were rooting for her to hit that next shot! She bowed to rapturous applause, and many of the guests posted photos and adoring comments about her on social media #ppaconnect

Desserts were finished and guests headed to the bar area to an alpine scenery set up as a photo area, with various props and accessories to add to the fun. Our one-of-a-kind clockwork Nutcracker doll mingled on the dancefloor, dance en pointe (her Ballet tiptoes) to the amusement of guests. And she would occasionally stop still as if her batteries had run out, prompting guests to run her LED-lit wind up key, enabling her to dance again. A charming act enjoyed by all.

Thanks for having us, PPA Connect. See you in 2016!
